Maximum cleanliness, minimum effort – chain care in LIQUI MOLY style
The service life of a chain depends largely on how the bicycle is used. How often and thoroughly the drive component is cleaned and maintained has a major influence. With theright tools, the job gets done moreefficiently and quickly. LIQUI MOLY has added two useful items to its range: Chain Brush and Chain Spray Guard.
On average, a bicycle chain lasts around 1,500 to 3,000 kilometers. As with other vehicles, usage patterns and the operational profile are key factors. Predominantly operated on the road and well maintained, up to 5,000 kilometers are possible. Mud, rain, frequent shifting under load and steep inclines contribute significantly and more quickly to chain wear.
Professionals in the trade and workshops know this. It is all the more important to make their customers aware of this. “Technical advice creates trust and can lead to additional sales,” says David Kaiser from LIQUI MOLY. He heads up the Research & Development as well as Application Technology departments at the vehicle care specialist. In direct dialog with the user, the importance of professional cleaning and care and which chemicals and tools ideally support the individual work steps can be clearly explained. For example, Kaiser recommends the new Chain Brush and the new variable spray guard from LIQUI MOLY for users and, above all, for specialist dealers and workshops: “Both are ideal impulse-buy items at the PoS and suitable for starting a consultation.” And using the right tools for the job means you get better results and save time.
Fitted with a three-sided “chain jaw”, the Chain Brush enables 360° deep cleaning from all sides in a single pass, because it encloses the chain. “Dirt, oil deposits, mud and road grime can be removed more thoroughly and faster than with a cloth,” says Kaiser. The brush is designed to be easily placed over the chain while the rear wheel is moved with the pedal crank. The longer bristles at the other end of the brush clean the hard-to-reach places in the rear cogset and on the front chain rings. Kaiser emphasizes: “Dirt particles act like emery paper and wear out the chain, sprockets and rings. Regular cleaning with our new brush will help prolong its life.”
Because the motto is “Two are better than one”, the brush is supported by the LIQUI MOLY Chain Spray Guard. It enables the chain spray to be applied quickly and precisely. And only where it needs to go – on the chain itself. Oil residues on tires, rims or brake disks are undesirable and dangerous, as they can completely cancel out the braking effect. “The Chain Spray Guard is a simple yet extremely useful tool, and a versatile one at that. Regardless of the shape of the can or spray head, it can be attached to all LIQUI MOLY spray cans and the lubricant can then be applied without any problems,” explains the expert.
In addition to classic chain oils, a special lubricant for bicycles and e-bikes is available from the LIQUI MOLY Bike line: the Bike Ceramic Chain Spray. Whether with or without aids, oil or spray, Kaiser recommends more frequent and sparing application of the lubricant rather than seldom and thick.
