Its own production facility in Ulm now fills more than 18 million cans a year for additives alone – and the trend is rising. LIQUI MOLY produces around 90,000 t of lubricants per year, which are sold in more than 150 countries. The majority of these are automotive products. Founded in 1957, LIQUI MOLY’s beginnings go back decades. The first product was an oil additive that contains the solid lubricant molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) to protect the engine against wear. Today, after more than 65 years, this oil additive is still being produced. This additive is also where the company name comes from: LIQUI, because it is a liquid additive, and MOLY because of the molybdenum disulfide.
