The lubricant specialist’s quality promise – now verified by a scan

For more security, transparency and trust: LIQUI MOLY is introducing a new digital test procedure for its oils. An individual QR code on the canister lid allows customers to verify the authenticity of the product in question – in real time.

Since as early as 2023, we have been providing QR codes on oil canister lids to safeguard items' traceability. They enabled tracing the product's origin on the basis of unique batch numbers. Since mid-May, these QR codes have been replaced by an optimized version with a green frame that cannot be copied. All oil canisters are equipped with such a QR code.

The new QR code enables a digital, real-time check: A quick scan is all it takes for customers to immediately verify whether the respective oil is a genuine LIQUI MOLY product. Customers are also provided with further information about the product and its application. If the scan exposes any kind of inconsistency, the code is transferred to the authentication app. In the app, the code is scanned again to clearly verify whether it is a genuine or a counterfeit product. On identifying a counterfeit product, users are taken to a contact form with which they can report the counterfeit product so LIQUI MOLY can take appropriate steps. A specially designed landing page on the LIQUI MOLY website explains the new test procedure in detail.

The quality of our oils makes them a popular target. Counterfeit products cause financial losses, undermine customers' trust, as well as, in some cases, they lead to engine damage and can even put users' health at risk,” Marco Esser explains in his role as Marketing Director at LIQUI MOLY. “We aim to take an active approach to this issue. The new, digital, real-time check intends to cut the number of counterfeit products as well as provide certainty for our business and private customers.
