Cleaning motorcycle air filters correctly
A reliable, clean filter is extremely important. Contaminants in the air such as dirt, dust and water act like sandpaper in the engine. This can lead to premature wear of components such as the carburettor, valves, pistons and cylinders. The air filter removes dirt and environmental influences from the intake air required for combustion. Clean intake air contributes to the operating reliability of the motorcycle. Proper care of the foam filter is therefore a high priority.
The air filter should be checked and cleaned at appropriate intervals, especially if it is used predominantly in dusty or damp areas. Our Motorbike Foam Filter Cleaner reduces contamination in just a few minutes.
It’s this simple
1. Before cleaning, remove the air filter from the carrier mold. Mix Motorbike Foam Filter Cleaner in a suitable container. Depending on the degree of soiling, dose between 1:5 and 1:10 (1 part cleaner: 5–10 parts water).
2. Completely immerse the filter element in the cleaning solution and leave it to soak for 5–10 minutes. Then gently knead the foam filter in the solution until it is completely clean inside and out.
Caution: Do not wring out the filter under any circumstances, as this may cause damage.
Note: Wear suitable hand protection (e.g. disposable gloves) when cleaning.
3. Then press out the filter under fresh water until the cleaner has been rinsed out completely. If stubborn dirt remains, repeat the process as necessary.
4. Gently knead the air filter to squeeze out the excess water. Allow to dry in ambient air before installation. For optimum function, then moisten the foam element with Motorbike Foam Filter Oil.
