Made in Germany and living in Germany

Good morning, dear colleagues!

For almost 30 years now, I have been serving our companies Liqui Moly and Meguin in Ulm and Saarlouis. In both cities, I have met extremely likeable, friendly, polite and congenial people over the years. Well-behaved and good-humored :-) All our guests from all over the world, whom I had the pleasure to welcome, were impressed by the positive mood and atmosphere in our cities and the friendliness of the people. Yes, we Germans are envied for our country, for our living conditions, and for our social structures. Freedom, democracy, the rule of law, medical care, social security, and also the culture and leisure activities in our country, are unique in the world.

Of course, it is always possible to improve even a good situation, and that is what all the upright and well-meaning people in our society are striving to do. But when you look at the world and the individual countries, you can certainly come to the conclusion that we Germans are doing very well and that we live in a wonderful country.

When I look at the healthcare system in the USA, the standard of living in South America, the lack of freedom of the press and freedom of opinion in large parts of Asia, the catastrophic conditions in Africa and also some deficits in Europe, I always understand very well why people in other countries envy us. I often talk to our customers about the different living conditions in the various countries. Pensions, social security, entrepreneurial freedoms, secure jobs, state welfare programs, infrastructure, education, basic rights – to a large extent, lacking. There are perhaps a handful of countries worldwide that can match our standard.

Even the often-criticized German bureaucracy is longed for in some countries, in order to guarantee the rule of law, order and also safety in all fields of life for the people. Especially in these days of the global battle against corona, we are receiving enormous approval from abroad for the measures we are taking and for our successful handling of the health and economic crisis. Despite all the differences of opinion, which basically only reflect the normal diversity of opinion to be expected with 82 million people – as is perfectly normal in a democracy and which one can easily endure – we in Germany have a social consensus which welds us together as a community, rather than driving us apart. I think we can all be proud of what we have made (and are still making) out of this country and how good life is here in the international comparison.

I would not want to live and work in any other country in the world.
