Record Setting Win!

We all knew it was not a question of “if” but “when.” That “when” was Saturday, August 22, 2020, when Turner Motorsport driver Bill Auberlen and teammate Robby Foley piloted the Turner MotorSport LIQUI MOLY M6 to GTD class victory in the Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway. While this win makes a significant, positive impact in the Weather Tech Championship season, it is also the 61^st IMSA win for Bill, making him the winningest driver in American Sports Car history.

With the Turner Motorsport GTD victory on the final lap of last year’s Petit Le Mans, Bill moved into a tie with retired driver Scott Pruett. This win at VIR now positions him firmly atop the victory leaderboard and sets the tone for a fantastic remainder of the season. “The team has been great all season,” Bill said. “This win was sort of the elephant in the room…and now with number 61 in the books, we can keep the focus on the championship.”

LIQUI MOLY is obviously thrilled with the long-time partnership with the entire team at Turner Motorsport. The success certainly doesn’t top at the GTD level. In fact, the next day, the Turner team, with Bill and Robby Foley kept winning in the number 95 M4GT4, claiming first (while Robby finished in the number 96 car for third place in the GS class in the M4GT4 cars. For LIQUI MOLY, it is more than having our logos on the cars; we appreciate another example of our consumer oils continuing to perform at race-proven levels.

“I got my first win 27 years ago and have worked with countless sponsors since then, many really good ones,” Bill explained. “LIQUI MOLY is at the top of the class. For me, it’s more than just the great oil for our race cars—a pretty critical aspect of the process really. Since seeing the difference LIQUI MOLY oils make in our race cars, I now use the product in my own cars and now my boats, too. And that livery looks pretty good, too!”

Worth Shover, owner of Shover Imports in North Carolina, sees this repeatedly; he is also on the crew team for Turner Motorsports. “I have long known that LIQUI MOLY oils and additives are the best for my shop and my customers.
