Luca Engstler is Champion of the TCR Asia Series 2019
Andreas Klinge, LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler:
"Both drivers had a great season and showed on the extremely demanding street circuit in Bangsaen that they keep their nerves in every situation, no matter how dicey, and finish the race fully focused. With their Hyundai i30 N TCR they drove to success and now we can be happy not only about the title in the team ranking but also about places 1 and 2 in the driver ranking. Thanks to everyone in the team for their fantastic work and to our partners Hyundai, LIQUI MOLY, Eibach and Pagid for an outstanding season in the TCR Asia Series!
Diego Moran had a strong race weekend. He took first place twice in the races of Thailand. Luca Engstler started the race on Saturday from pole position. In the second corner, however, Engstler spins after a touch and the safety car had to leave the track. After one lap the race was free again and Engstler was able to fully intervene in the race again. In the meantime Moran took the lead and showed a strong performance.
Diego Moran, driver LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler:
"I had the luck on my side, everything played into my cards, so that I could win the ninth run with aplomb. Only once did I get a little nervous when Luca arrived very quickly from behind. But I was able to keep him behind me and I'm very happy about the victory on the extremely demanding race track."
While the two LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler team mates were fighting for victory at the front, there was an accident in the rear field. The safety car had to return to the track and the race could not be restarted. With the second place Engstler had come a bit closer to the champion title, but the decision was not made until the season finale on Sunday. Both Diego Moran and Luca Engstler again showed an unbeatable performance, but also rely on safety. Moran was able to quickly move up to the top from fourth on the grid and defend his lead until the finish. Engstler started the race from sixth position on the grid. Once again, the 19-year-old ensured exciting overtaking manoeuvres and duels, which ultimately secured him third place and the championship.
Luca Engstler, Champion of the TCR Asia Series 2019:
"I am so happy and grateful. I really wanted to defend the champion title and thanks to the great support of our partners and the whole team I succeeded. Thank you very much for that, it is such an indescribable feeling".
Congratulations on this great success, powered by LIQUI MOLY!
