Das Team LIQUI MOLY Engstler Motorsport feierte seinen ersten WTCR-Sieg beim Race of Slovakia, dem dritten Lauf der Saison 2020 des WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup.
Engstler Hyundai N Liqui Moly Racing Team driver Nicky Catsburg powered his way into the lead from third at the start of Race 3 and managed to maintain a comfortable gap to those behind for the remaining laps. In a further demonstration of the pace of the Hyundai i30 N TCR, Catsburg also claimed the fastest lap of the weekend.
The Dutch driver enjoyed a strong Saturday at the Slovakia Ring, securing points in qualifying for his first and second row starts for Sunday’s races, and claimed a further points-scoring finish with fifth place in Race 2.
His teammate Luca Engstler was the fastest of four Hyundai i30 N TCR cars in practice but endured a difficult qualifying session, which in turn compromised his starting position on Sunday. Though the German retired from Race 1 he carved his way through the grid in Races 2 and 3 to finish 10th and 9th respectively, scoring points in both races.
After Race of Slovakia, Catsburg and Engstler lie 10th and 17th in the drivers’ standings with Engstler Hyundai N Liqui Moly Racing Team fifth overall.
Franz Engstler, Team Principal of Engstler Hyundai N Liqui Moly Racing Team said: “We are absolutely delighted with our maiden WTCR win.
Nicky did a fantastic job to take a commanding lead and bring the car home in first place. Luca also demonstrated the pace of the Hyundai i30 N TCR throughout the weekend, and made great progress through the order in Races 2 and 3 to finish in the points. Our focus now turns to Hungary, where we hope to continue this momentum.”
Nicky Catsburg said: “My first victory in WTCR and the first for the team as well! My start was great and I was lucky that those behind me were battling with each other so I could start to build a gap. We will now go and celebrate a fantastic weekend after a job well done.”
Luca Engstler said: “I am really pleased with my performance in Race 3, coming from 17th on the grid to finish 9th. I’m happy for Nicky and the team for their first win of the year. I think we’re in the right place with the Hyundai i30 N TCR and we will work hard to have another strong weekend in Hungary.”
