Clean and care for your motorcycle chain correctly
With power transmission to the rear wheel, the chain is a crucial component in the motorcycle’s drive system and is subjected to frequent load changes, very high rotational speeds, high tensile loads, dirty conditions in off-road areas, or wet and adverse conditions in everyday road traffic. These demand everything from the chain, which is why special lubrication and perfect protection are required.
In addition to lubricating the chain, the motorcycle chain spray is therefore also used to protect against corrosion and reduce noise.
Lubrication
The chain of the motorcycle is constantly in motion. Friction occurs between the chain and the sprocket. Not only there, but also between the individual links of the chain. In the process, it is exposed to high loads. The lubricant contained in the chain spray reduces friction on O-, X-, or Z-rings, which leads to a longer service life of the chain through wear reduction and also to increased efficiency of the entire drive system. A well-maintained chain also contributes to safety. This is because a worn or incorrectly tensioned chain can jump off or even break.
Corrosion protection
Whether driving or only stationary, motorcycles are exposed to diverse weather conditions, including moisture and road dirt. High-quality chain spray creates a protective layer on the chain and shields it against corrosion and rusting even in adverse conditions. Thanks to the excellent penetrability, even hard-to-reach areas such as the outer and inner link plates of the chain as well as the inside of the chain are optimally protected.
Reduced noise levels
A dry, unlubricated chain can cause annoying squeaking and rattling noises. The chain spray makes the chain run smoothly and quietly, which contributes to a pleasant riding experience.
Clean the chain regularly
The chain should be cleaned regularly so that old dirt and grime from the road does not get stuck in the O-rings of the chain and between the links. Lubricating the chain alone is often not enough. This means: The chain should also be cleaned before lubrication. Our Motorbike Chain and Brake Cleaner is suitable for this.
Check chain tension regularly
Over time, it can happen that the motorcycle chain is undertensioned and sags. This may cause it to start whipping. This affects the life of the chain. At the same time, a chain that is too tight can cause premature wear. It should therefore be checked regularly to see whether it needs to be retightened. Information on how tight the motorcycle chain must be can usually be found in the manual or on a pictogram on the swing arm.
