In Iraq LIQUI MOLY is earning millions in sales – a visit with the importer in Dohuk

December 2011 – The German motor oil and additive specialist LIQUI MOLY has been exporting to Iraq for five years now, and during this time the country has developed into one of the most important export markets for the company. The security situation has now for the first time allowed a visit to the importer on location. Regional manager Salvatore Coniglio and export manager Gerhard Riedmüller visited Autoland in Duhok.

LIQUI MOLY is earning millions in sales in Iraq. 'And that isn't the end of the line', says Salvatore Coniglio. 'Iraq is one of our most quickly growing markets.' This is also due to the importer Autoland, based in Dohuk in the Kurdish north. Together with owner Daldar Arif Fattah, Riedmüller and Coniglio discussed market strategies and visited garages and dealers in Dohuk, Arbil and Sulaimaniyye.

In the oil and additive sector, LIQUI MOLY is viewed as the quality brand par excellence in Iraq. This also due to the fact that the company produces exclusively in Germany in order to maintain the high quality standard. Automobile drivers in Iraq thus receive the same products as drivers in Germany. 'Other companies may view the Iraqi market as too uncertain, but we see the great chances and possibilities for development in the country', Coniglio explains. 'We exploit our great potential by attempting to understand each market individually, and not trying to implement a standard strategy everywhere in the world.'

For instance, sales through gas stations are to be reinforced in 2012. In addition, there is also a plan to implement a concept that has been very successful in Germany in Iraq: garages can acquire a LIQUI MOLY look affordably. This can improve the visuals of the garage and allow it to decorate itself with a strong brand.

'The hospitality in Iraq was overwhelming', according to Coniglio. This first visit will certainly not be the last. The next trip is already planned for 2012. A technician will also come from Germany to provide dealers and garage owners with application tips and background knowledge.
